Analyzing Antigone

As we analyzed further about Antigone, I started to understand more about the play. I have managed to know the whole picture of this play through the analysis that Dr. Edwin had went through with us. At this point, we have at least know what is the meaning behind each line and I realized that even though the lines are short but each line hidden a deeper meaning. This is the interesting part of plays where we have to find out the meaning and interpret it ourself. To analyzed the lines, there are various aspects that we can look for. First of all, we can analyze the modals that were used in the play. Secondly, the action or the position of the characters will also give us an idea of what is the traits of the characters. Thirdly, the choice of words also play an important role as it suggests what kind of language the character uses and how the character talk to each other. These are the few aspects that we can use to analyze this play. I hope this play would turn out easy for me to comprehend.

Antigone

As for this subject required me to analyze the play "Antigone" by Sophocles, I find the language of the play is quite easy. But the underlying meaning of the play is somehow need my effort to interpret it. Although the underlying meaning need time to interpret it, the play itself has convey some moral value of the society on it. I came to realize about the importance of human relationship and the family value that we should have in our life. Antigone's determination to bury her brother although Creon has prohibited anyone to do that, had somehow showed her loyalty to the family. Besides that, Antogone has also give me a impression that she is a brave woman who is brave enough to go against the King although she knew the punishment is death. She is also brave in the sense that she never give up to go against a man although at that setting it is the men who has the power to control women. What I would say is that, this play gives a lot of meaning to the readers.

my first week lecture

For this semester, we were introduced with a new subject - "Teaching the Language of Drama", that will teach us about how to teach drama in classroom. First of all, we were given a short introduction of the history of drama so that we have a rough idea of what is drama all about. I feel that it is important for us to know about the history of drama before we actually learn drama. When we already have the knowledge of drama in our mind, it is easier for the students to analyze the drama that we are doing. When I was learning about drama, I found that the language of the plays is somehow quite difficult to understand even for students at my level. At this point, I was wondering whether students in primary and secondary school can face this challenge. But, in my opinion, I still feel that this would be a tough challenge for me and also for the students in primary and secondary school as drama is not like short stories or novels.
